Rain Sticks
In preparation for World Water Day, we have been studying all about the water crisis in other countries. We reviewed the water cycle and states of matter. The kids watched a neat video called Water Changes Everything. This really opened their eyes to the problem going on. Then they wrote letters to President Obama giving ideas on how to fix the water crisis. In addition, we even made rain sticks. After spring break we will celebrate Water Day as well as learn a little more in-depth about the crisis in specific countries.

Geometry Wrap-up
We finished up our geometry unit last week. The students investigated 3D shapes with edible shapes. We also used pattern blocks to explore symmetry. I was quite impressed with their ability to create the mirror image.

Jackson is the last Celebrity of the Week!
I cannot believe we celebrated our last student this week. Jackson was an awesome Celebrity of the Week. He rocked out with the guitar and shared his poster on Tuesday. I LOVED learning about his cool bird whistle from China. It sounded just like birds. We were amazed! Jackson also has great balance as he showed us how to balance on a basketball. What a great way to end our week.

Math Explorations
Another successful Math Explorations was held on Friday. I love watching the kids interact with other adults. They are so excited and it makes learning that much more fun for them. Our stations were centered around measurement, area/perimeter, and subtraction. Of course, the parents did great too!

Foster in the Spotlight!
Last week we got to celebrate Foster. Our favorite part was hearing him play the piano. He is so talented! We also enjoyed learning more about him through the wonderful poster. I can't believe we are almost done spotlighting every student. It has been a blast.

Geometry: 3D shapes
This week we are exploring 2D and 3D shapes. On Monday we went on a scavenger hunt around the school looking for 2D shapes. Tuesday, we made 3D shapes using marshmellows and toothpicks. We have discussed the vocabulary edges, vertices, and faces. They are doing a great job!
