Clayton is Celebrity

We had fun celebrating Clayton this week. The class loved dancing while Clayton showed us some impressive dance moves. I love that he is comfortable enough to dance in front of the class. Several students have danced for their talent. I think I need to get out the video camera! Clayton also shared a really cool souvenir from Washington D.C. Thanks Clayton for a great week!

Ohhh Clayton!

He loves LSU and Saints

Celebrity of the Week: Tatum

Tatum was a stupendous Celebrity of the Week. I loved celebrating and learning more about her. She shared about her precious Grandpa and showed us a special gift.

It looks like Tatum has a lot of fun!

Wow, impressive!

Pajama Day!

I am pretty sure Barker Pajama Day is now my new favorite day of the year. Who doesn't love being comfortable all day long?! We had a blast wearing slippers and lounging around in our pjs as we did our work. The pajama day is named after my friend Mrs. Barker. She was the previous Primary School Head who started the tradition at St. Francis. I am so glad Lower School is included.

We also did our Acts of Kindness and read to the Primary kids. I really love this time. The kids are so excited about showing off their reading skills and they have so much fun too. It is quite the sight to see. I especially love seeing my more quiet, reserved readers showing pictures and acting like a teacher. What a way to make my heart melt and end a Friday! :)

Sisters!

Of course, it was no surprise to my students that I came in dachshund pjs. I just got these for Christmas and was pretty excited to wear them to school. Come to find out, Mrs. Cire had the exact same ones and was wearing them too!

Holding the dachshund Mimi brought me after XMAS break

Gracie is Celebrity of the Week

The class had a wonderful time celebrating Gracie this week. We read aloud Grace for President and learned about her dad bringing her back charms from Peru. How neat! I was even featured on her poster! I am one lucky teacher. :)

She was definitely a STAR a this week.

love her personality!

Special Thank You

I FINISHED!!!! 26.2 miles done :) It feels good to say that. Okay if I'm being honest, it feels SOOO good to say that.

I must admit that seeing my 9 precious kiddos with signs and their parents cheering me on absolutely made my day! It truly motivated me to keep going and push through to the end. I loved the chant of "Go Mrs. K" as they ran down the yard. As I think about it now I am still smiling. Thank you so much for a memorable running experience.

Here is an after shot with my hubby!

Reading Marathon

In honor of me running the Houston marathon this weekend, I decided it would be fun to have a "reading marathon" in the classroom. After Christmas break, it can be challenging to get the kids excited about reading again and their stamina for reading isn't quite where it was before break. So I put together a fun and exciting way to increase their stamina and motivate them to come to the marathon. Perfect combo from my perspective. Here is how it worked:

10 minutes: Draw a new cover for your book
10 minutes: Read
10 minutes: Draw the main character and write 3 character traits to describe him/her
10 minutes: Read
10 minutes: Write a quick summary of what you read
10 minutes: Read
10 minutes: Draw your visualization and write a sentence

I must say it worked beautifully. The kids were totally psyched about reading and got in a good 30 minutes of reading and another 30 minutes of responding. I set the timer each time and fueled their bodies as well (just like I will be doing Sunday)! The kids loved their "fuel" which was apple juice and a red life saver.

Here are the pictures from a successful Reading Marathon!

CHEERS!!! Enjoying some "fuel"

Tatum is hard at work.

Sophia is working on her character...looking at our chart for traits.

Great pic!

"This was so much fun!"

Celebrity of the Week: WALKER

My favorite part of Celebrity of the Week is definitely Mondays. I love to see what they pick to dress-up in to showcase their personality. AND, of course, the cat walk is a class favorite. Walker is so athletic and it was no surprise (to me) that he brought a jersey and football. When I asked him to pose, without a pause he gave me the best Heisman pose. The cat walk was awesome as well. Can't wait to highlight Walker the rest of the week.
