Science Experiment: Parts of a seed

This week we spent lots of time talking about the parts of a plant. The book, From Seed to Plant by Gail Gibbons was an excellent resource for an in-depth discussion about the importance of a seed. We explored even further by examining a dry and wet lima bean. After soaking the lima bean in water overnight, students used a toothpick to pull apart the seed coat and observe the embryo (baby plant) as well as see where the food is located. We used our 5 senses to record what we learned in our Science journals. Needless to say, another successful Science experiment.
