Fiction vs. Non-fiction

Non-fiction is one of my favorite things to teach. The kids are so naturally curious. Non-fiction text is the perfect avenue to quench their curiosity . This week we started noticing the differences between fiction and non-fiction. We created a venn diagram using hula hoops (fun!) to compare and contrast fiction versus non-fiction. The kids also went on a scavenger hunt searching for different non-fiction features. Now we are analyzing each feature and determining its purpose for the reader. Eventually students will become specialists and write their own non-fiction book.
